New Balance 9060
You head out to the city in the morning, the sky is overcast, and you want sneakers that go with anything. The New Balance 9060 in Raincloud/Castlerock colors are perfect for those days. The cool gray tones create a calm vibe, but the chunky sole adds a bold character, so you can elevate even a simple pair of jeans and a hoodie. And since they’re incredibly comfortable, you can wear them all day long.
The 9060 model draws inspiration from the classic 99X series and translates it into a contemporary design with a distinctly shaped, slightly futuristic silhouette. The upper combines suede with breathable mesh, ensuring the shoe maintains its shape while allowing your foot to breathe. The midsole features ABZORB and SBS technologies that cushion impacts while walking, and the elevated outsole provides stability and a signature chunky look. The gray shades fit seamlessly into casual streetwear outfits, pairing well with cargo pants or joggers. New Balance was founded in 1906 in Boston and continues to emphasize meticulous craftsmanship and comfort, which you’ll notice right from the first step. You can find the 9060 sneakers at Footshop.
New Balance 9060
Retrofuturistic mix of the 990 and 860, designed over video calls during the pandemic - New Balance 9060
Few sneakers have come about in such an unusual way as the New Balance 9060 – a model created by two designers who never met in person throughout the entire process. Yet, it has become one of the most distinctive silhouettes of the Y2K revival in recent years. The shoe combines the robust heritage of the 90s 990 series with the fast, technical look of early 2000s running models. The result is a distinctly futuristic shape that is now among the most recognizable retro sneakers on the market.
History: a design process without a single in-person meeting
The model was developed in collaboration between designer James Lee and New Balance's internal designer Yue Wu (creator of the 2002R "Refined Future" pack). Work on the 9060 began at the end of 2019, just before the pandemic, and the entire process took place remotely – a unique situation where the pair of designers built the shoe purely through remote exchange of ideas and feedback. The 9060 first hit the market in 2022 in the "Mindful Grey" colorway, followed by a collaboration with Joe Freshgoods.
In terms of design, the shoe draws from two key models – the strong, robust heritage of the 990 and the fast, technical look of 2000s running shoes like the 860v2. It was a conscious continuation of the "retrofuturism" concept that New Balance has gradually explored over the previous decades: the 327 referenced the 70s, the 57/40 the 80s and 90s, and the 9060 naturally connected to the 2000s era.
Technology: ABZORB and SBS midsole
What makes the 9060 so comfortable for all-day wear is the dual-layer midsole construction:
- ABZORB foam: New Balance's flagship cushioning foam providing overall impact absorption during walking and all-day wear.
- ABZORB SBS: Gel insert, typically in the heel area, that adds stability and absorbs impact force upon landing.
The result is a distinctly soft, "cloud-like" feel with a high ability to absorb impact forces – reviewers often recommend the shoe to those who spend a lot of time on their feet.
Who the model is for
The 9060 is a fashion silhouette for you if you're looking for a striking, futuristically styled shoe for all-day wear with maximum comfort – ideal for fans of Y2K aesthetics and chunky silhouettes who appreciate the combination of bold design with real comfort.
Materials
More than a century of tradition based on stable and reliable movement. These are the New Balance shoes, which have become a symbol around which a cult of comfortable walking and running lovers has been created during the 20th century. But beyond sneakers, New Balance is also at the forefront of everyday and sports fashion. Every year, a special collection is released and more than one football team boasts the NB logo on their jersey.
The history and development of New Balance shoes
On our website and practically anywhere else, you won't find a large number of brands as old as New Balance. In fact, as early as 1906, the New Balance Arch Support Company was formed to provide specific aids for each shoe. These were designed to not only provide comfort to the then not-so-comfortable shoes, but more importantly stability by supporting the arch of the foot - hence the name New Balance.
However, New Balance sneakers as shoes did not start to come out until many years later. Specifically, the first silhouette of a New Balance shoe saw the light of day in 1960 when the Trackster model came out. It was unique among the others primarily because it was the first outright running shoe with a crimped sole.
But the marketing didn't work very well and for a long time New Balance shoes were still a community affair. It wasn't until the 1970s that sales started to grow, with the popularisation of running, which was also linked to the hosting of the now iconic Boston Marathon. New Balance shoes began to become popular among runners and the company slowly but surely became a leading manufacturer of running shoes.
For running? Yes, but also no.
Today, however, men's and women's New Balance sneakers aren't just a running thing. Over years of branding and image building, they have become sneakers for almost every situation. Today we wear New Balance shoes before a trip to the countryside, a city walk but also a social event and still undoubtedly before a sporting performance.
New Balance sneakers can therefore be found in a variety of different designs. Men's and women's, in black and white and many other colours. The most popular models today are mainly New Balance sneakers with the 247, 373, 574 and 997. Of course, you can find all these New Balance shoes on Footshop. But besides these, there are also many others and the ranges of the latest silhouettes are constantly growing. So before you make your final choice, carefully examine all of our New Balance sneakers.
A record for stability.
New Balance footwear today is not afraid to venture into collaborations with other fashion brands, but also artists or athletes. It's not so long ago that the NB logo also started to appear on the jerseys of some football teams, and it's not impossible that the brand's influence and reach will continue to grow in the future. New Balance sneakers are worn, for example, by Trayvon Bromell, the American sprinter who became the first junior ever to break the magic ten-second mark in the 100 metres. Could it be that New Balance shoes helped him to achieve this?
In short,New Balance sneakers are a phenomenon that we have been wearing for many decades and everything indicates that we will be wearing them for many decades to come. And hopefully in greater numbers. The original intention of the brand, to make wearing sneakers on a daily basis more enjoyable, has not left New Balance shoes even more than a century after the legendary phrase was introduced to the market.
So be part of a tradition with a clear vision and name your sneakers with the iconic NB in the logo.
