Vans Half Cab Decon
The brand Vans grew up in the California skate scene, and the mid-top sneaker Half Cab is one of its most important stories. It originated from the high-top Caballero model, which skaters shortened themselves, and Vans turned their idea into a standalone shoe in the early '90s. In the Decon version and Marshmallow colorway, you wear it with respect to its roots, but in a light and clean design that works great off the skatepark as well.
The upper combines smooth leather with suede, ensuring the shoes maintain their shape while adapting more to your foot with each wear. The mid-height covers the ankle just right, allowing for freedom of movement. The waffle outsole provides reliable grip on both the board and the sidewalk. Vans Half Cab
Half is half, and Cab in this case is not a taxi, but a shortening of the surname Caballero, the legendary skateboarder. He had his own model of the popular Vans Caballero ankle sneaker, which at some point skateboarders started cutting off the top part and taping the slit with duct tape, because skateboarding had moved from the pool to the street by then and the high ankle was getting in the way of the foot. The slit sneaker was used until Steve Caballero decided to respond to the new trend and partnered with Vans to launch a sneaker simply called the Half Cab.
