Veja V-90
Sneakers made from Amazonian rubber that prove sustainability and style can coexist - Veja V-90
Before founding one of the most prominent sustainable brands on the market, two Frenchmen traveled to factories in South America, Asia, and Australia to see firsthand where the materials for sneakers really come from. Veja V-90 is the slimmer, more elegant member of the family of models that emerged from this approach – a shoe built on the philosophy that sneakers can be stylish and ethically made at the same time. Unlike the bulkier V-10, the V-90 offers a sleeker profile with a leather upper and more pronounced cushioning. It's the choice for those who want a bit more elegance from sustainable fashion.
History: a brand founded on the journey for materials
The brand Veja was founded in 2004 by Frenchmen Sébastien Kopp and François-Ghislain Morillion with the aim of proving that style and sustainability are not mutually exclusive. Before they came up with their first shoe, they traveled the world and closely examined the materials and production of sneakers in factories across South America, Asia, and Australia. They introduced their first model in 2005, using organic cotton, natural rubber, and recycled plastic, along with a focus on fair trade practices and a lower environmental impact. Kopp describes the brand's design simply: “Veja is about simplification, about designing sneakers that we can wear every day” – inspired by minimalism, workwear, military footwear, and trail shoes.
Technology: wild Amazonian rubber and organic materials
What makes the V-90 a representative model of the entire Veja philosophy are these materials:
- Wild Rubber outsole: A lightweight, neutrally toned outsole made from wild rubber harvested in the Amazon rainforest – specifically containing 40% Amazonian rubber, 23% mineral quartz, 10% recycled rubber scraps, and 11% synthetic rubber.
- Organic Traced leather and suede: The upper combines panels of traceable organic leather and suede for a sleeker, slimmer silhouette than the V-10 model.
- Bio-based EVA insole: The inner insole contains 67% bio-based EVA (of which 53% is from sugarcane), complemented by 13% Amazonian rubber and 11% organic cotton.
- Organic cotton: The laces are made from 100% organic cotton, while the lining is made from 100% recycled polyester.
Design
The V-90 offers a slimmer, more elegant profile than the bulkier V-10, with a leather upper and more pronounced cushioning, giving it a more refined appearance – the ideal choice if you want something more stylish from Veja for everyday wear.
Who the model is for
The V-90 is a fashion silhouette for you if you're looking for an ethically made shoe with a distinct design story – perfect for lovers of minimalism and sustainable fashion who want to know where the materials in their shoes truly come from.
Materials
If you find it strange that the French brand Veja hasn't reached you yet, it's completely understandable. It's because the brand prides itself on its realism and zero marketing philosophy. No giant ad campaigns, no hype-driven marketing. Instead, Veja has been investing in fair production, eco-friendly materials, long-term sustainability and producing high-quality products since 2004. And that's why it has won the hearts of people around the world, including the biggest fashion icons.
Veja's investment in manufacturing is reflected above all in the responsible selection of materials. The mainstays of their production are recycled materials, organic cotton, natural rubber and vegan leather alternatives. Each pair is made with the utmost care and respect for customers and nature. The sneakers have a simple yet timeless design that is easy to combine with any outfit. The "V" logo has become a symbol of a new generation of sneaker culture that thinks about ecology and the future of the planet.
Another key benefit is the price. Although it may not seem like it at first glance, this eco brand sells its unique pieces for very friendly prices. This is despite the fact that the production price of their sneakers is 5-7 times higher than the usual competition. They can afford to do this thanks to the aforementioned marketing savings.
Even celebrities who are into sustainable fashion love the brand. For example, Emma Watson, Meghan Markle, Emily Ratajkowski and Eddie Redmayne wear it. Thanks to its philosophy, Veja has won fans not only among environmentally conscious people, but also in the high-fashion world. Models regularly appear on catwalks and in the everyday outfits of celebrities.
If you want to add a sneaker with a story to your wardrobe that lasts while not polluting the planet, Veja is an unbeatable choice. No compromise between design and responsibility. Just pure style and fair manufacturing. Find your pair on Footshop and be part of positive change.
