National Geographic has been celebrating the wondrous world of science, geography, history, and world culture since 1888. And since sneakers have been embraced by the outdoor and functional clothing trend for the past few years, it makes sense that you're looking at a collaboration between traditional sports brand Reebok and National Geographic that uses sneakers to bring you even closer to the natural world than you'd see on TV or in a magazine.
The entire collection takes inspiration from famous explorers Matthieu Paley and Dr. Rae Wynn-Grant to give the sneakers the right authenticity of wildlife and exploration. Five colourful silhouettes are the basis, with each one bearing a unique QR code under which you'll find an engaging story and learn something too. Brilliant. Why have an encyclopedia in your library when you can keep a smart sneaker in your shoe cabinet and carry knowledge with you at all times. So get all 5 colourways for your shoe cabinet to expand your sneaker collection and your knowledge at the same time.
Reebok has decided that walking, let alone running, is not enough for its customers. In fact, when wearing their sneakers, they should float. That's why he created the Reebok Floatride technology. Ultimately, the Reebok Floatride not only conveys a nice cushioning to the foot, but responsively, it also puts a lot of energy back into the foot. On top of that, it also aids your stability. Want to stop running and start floating too? Then explore sneakers with Reebok Floatride technology!
Textile: The textile upper of the sneakers is lightweight, breathable and comfortable, ideal for everyday wear and sports. It ensures air circulation, keeps feet fresh and adapts to their shape. Often complemented with synthetic or rubber details for durability and support.
Syntetika: The synthetic upper is made of synthetic materials that are lightweight, durable and easy to clean. It provides good protection against moisture and at the same time allows for a comfortable wearing experience.
Polyurethane foam: is one of the best thermal insulators, is lightweight, tough and windproof.
Rubber: The rubber outsole provides excellent grip and durability on a variety of surfaces. Thanks to its elasticity, it absorbs shock, increasing comfort when walking or running.
J.W. Foster, the founder of Reebok, created the first studded running shoe (the predecessor of today's trainers) in 1895. Reebok shoes did not begin to be produced under their current name until many decades later, in 1958. The company's name was given by two of Foster's grandsons who found the word in an old Afrikaans dictionary. Its meaning was the naming of a species of antelope, symbolizing the speed and grace that a man running in a Reebok represents.
Reebok footwear gained its fame especially in the 1980s when aerobics was experiencing a huge boom. Women's Reebok shoes went on a tear back then, which helped all the other industries that Reebok was involved in. In the mid-1980s, the originally English company greatly expanded its sphere of influence overseas, and Reebok sneakers began to become a global phenomenon.
Retro models and combat sports
Despite the public's initial scepticism, Reebok shoes now play a strong role in streetwearculture outside of sport . The idea of resurrecting several retro models has contributed to this. These include the Reebok Daytona, Instapump Fury or Reebok Aztrek sneakers, which perfectly captured the retro trend of recent years. Reebok is now a subsidiary of German giant adidas, among others, and its current policy is to support sporting events around the world. Some of the most famous ones include the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship). It is therefore no surprise that Conor McGregor has become the main face of the new Reebok Zig Kinetica.
