PLEASURES: From Underground Lightning to Iconic Streetwear Voice

Some brands emerge from well-prepared business plans, but PLEASURES was born from pure nostalgia, anger, and love for the culture that shaped the '90s generation.

Origins and Roots (2015)

The brand was founded in June 2015 in Los Angeles by Alex James and Vlad Elkin. Alex grew up in New Jersey surrounded by the rise of punk rock, grunge, hip-hop, and the skate community. The name PLEASURES refers not only to joy but also to the visual and emotional legacy of the band Joy Division. From day one, the intention was clear: to create not just clothing, but a medium that captures mood, emotions, and altered states of being.

Cultural Shock and Controversy

PLEASURES gained attention not through quiet advertising but through a visual explosion. The brand quickly made its mark by using provocative yet controversial cultural references. The most famous example became the t-shirt featuring Kurt Cobain's farewell letter and pieces paying tribute to bands like A$AP Yams and Smashing Pumpkins. While others played it safe, PLEASURES transformed music subculture directly into streetwear.

Evolution and Iconic Collaborations

From a small independent project, it rapidly became a global phenomenon. The key to maintaining authenticity has been thoughtful collaborations. PLEASURES has partnered not only with fashion giants but also with icons of pop culture and music:

• Footwear and Fashion: Crocs, Reebok, Dr. Martens, Puma, Converse

• Music and Art: Joy Division, New Order, Korn, Playboy, Marilyn Manson

PLEASURES Today Today, PLEASURES is regarded as a cornerstone of the modern streetwear scene. Even though its pieces are sold in top boutiques worldwide, Alex James maintains an independent approach. The brand does not reflect quick TikTok trends—instead, it continuously draws from the visual archive of the '80s and '90s, allowing for a darker, rawer aesthetic.
